Major Problems of India: Poverty and Unemployment

A person who is literate, willing to work as per decided rates, and is in search of job but cannot find work is said to be unemployed and such condition arises is called unemployment. Housewives are literate but does not willing to work, Handicap, a person suffering from disease etc cannot be included in unemployed. There are many types of unemployment. They are as follows:

1 Frictional: Arises due to difference between new and old technology. 2 Seasonal: Arises due irregular irrigation facilities and rain. 3 Structural: Arises due to orthodox behavior, illiteracy, blind belief, etc. 4 Industrial: Arises as rural people shift to urban area but have no knowledge of new technologies. 5 Educated: Arises when people are educated but does not find job due to bookish knowledge, defective planning, etc

Amount of Unemployment: In April 1951, there were 33 lakh unemployed people, in 1969-1975, there were 139 lakh unemployed people, in April 1992, there were 230 lakh unemployed people, in Gujarat only there were 12 lakh unemployed in 2002-2003 out of which 68% were educated. Today also employment opportunities have increased but unemployment has not decreased. Different government program were also conducted to remove unemployment. Example:

·        Increment of small scale industries
·        Skill development program
·        Controlling population
·        Efforts and program to increase employment at rural level
·        Programs related to Gramin Sarvajanik Nirman
·        Programs conducted under Sampurna Gramin Rojgar Yojna
·        Increasing employment opportunities and infrastructure at rural level.

UNEMPLOYMENT also paved the way for poverty. Although all the political parties and even the government promise to provide employment to all but still unemployment virus is prevailing in our nation. Once, Indira Gandhi government gave slogan “Garibi Hataoo” (Remove Poverty) but it did not help anyone. Congress party always promise to provide 1 crore jobs every year but it does not work at all.
